GSA on Ice, Part 2
GSA-New York joined 25,000 well-bundled attendees at the Knickerbocker Ice Festival at Rockland Lake State Park, N.Y., to honor the Palisades Interstate Park Commission of New York and New Jersey for its work to preserve the region’s natural heritage and opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Attendees at the eco-friendly festival ate with compostable utensils and enjoyed solar and hydrogen energy demonstrations. The annual event also commemorated Rockland Lake’s history and the 400th anniversary of the Hudson River’s discovery. For more, check out www.knickerbockericefestival.com. |

Helping Earth by Helping Out, Part 1
Because there’s nothing more sustainable than giving back to your community and environment—especially when the need is greatest—GSA is highlighting some fun ways to put your skills to work for the world. Even a little time can make a big difference. Got a couple of hours after practice? Consider doing a bit of “citizen science.” The North American Amphibian Monitoring Program (NAAMP) needs volunteer observers to collect data on local frog and toad populations, which are declining worldwide. With only a couple of hours and a car, you can help scientists track how well amphibians are doing in your community—and step up to the plate for the planet’s health.
Visit the NAAMP website to see if your state is participating. |
